first lady of film score-yeah right

I'm in a random obsessive score-reviewing mood at the moment. Strange but true. I think it might be because my parents got me a really really really lovely "John Barry: The Collection: 40 Years of Film Music" 4 CD boxed set. Whee! I've been listening it to it just slightly obsessively for the last week or so. Alas, it's conducted by Nic Raine, and I really don't like Nic Raine that much because he has some really lousy orchestrations in there. For example: a violin is not the same as a harmonica, and a harmonica is not the same as a piano. You'd think that would be fairly obvious. But for some reason on the Midnight Cowboy main title theme, the violins are playing the harmonica's part and the harmonica's playing the piano part. Did I mention it sounds seriously messed? And with the The Lion in Winter suite, they seriously messed up the rhythmn and the dynamics are really way off; you can barely hear the chorus on "Eleanor's Arrival" but then everyone starts shouting for "We're All Jungle Creatures." It's very annoying, but they got the main title theme done right mostly. But generally it's a pretty damned good compilation work. There are quite a few more obscure scores in there that I've never heard of before, which is absolutely lovely. Writing an essay for fun and hopefully SiCo will be nice and publish it as an article on the forums. That would be absolutely lovely, as I've been meaning to write an article for the forums for ages but haven't had time/willpower to do it. Blame my deranged thoughts on the painkillers I took last week.
Oh, and I have just one more error to analyse and the conclusion to write on my big Fe 2+ or 3+ lab. Whee! Problem is, I can't think of a 3rd error. Argh.
