Before I forget: congrats to [livejournal.com profile] tortillafactory on being married and happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] greenhoodloxley! I'm afraid I'm rubbish about remembering these things on the days they actually occur, but the wedding photos looked like a lot of fun and I hope you had a great Halloween birthday.

As of 5 PM this evening, I am officially into my master's program here in gerontology. Considering that the paperwork took two months to complete, it felt rather anticlimactic. I'm just glad that it's all taken care of now and that I was able to register for all but one of the classes I needed today. Well, except that I have to take the GREs by the spring of 2010 if I want to increase my chances of convincing the university to continue paying my tuition, but I have all of winter break to study.

Speaking of which, taking a practice GRE may be the scariest thing I've ever faced on Halloween. And that was just the psychology subject test, which left me feeling mildly homicidal towards the creators of standardized tests. Thankfully I didn't waste all of Halloween on obsessing about the future and hiding indoors from obnoxious neighbors. Ailsa, Lillian and I went out for a 10 o'clock ramen run at the ever delicious Daikokuya, followed by long talks over the multiflavorful tastiness of Yogurtland, in Little Tokyo. I highly recommend both places, especially on a student's budget. We gawked at the surprising number of non-skankily attired revelers wandering around downtown. It was exactly my sort of favorite holiday - good food and company, not necessarily in that order. It's the sort of luxury I crave these days.

Funny, it's the second year in a row I was in Little Tokyo on Halloween. Last year I was improvising a historical group tour of the neighborhood alongside my boss and trying to figure out how to transport 18 people in one car because the DASH bus stops running after 6. Maybe I ought to make it a tradition...

hey! Congrats!! That's really cool. What an achievement, seriously. Wow. I'm not even in "higher education" yet :P You will do great on your GREs. :)

Hope all is going well. Halloween sounded fun :) Perhaps I will visit you in LA again sometime when I get a chance (:.

Thank you! I'm just so glad to have all the ridiculous paperwork out of the way now. I secretly suspect that my sudden fixation on GREs is my weird way of procrastinating on the stuff I should be doing for class in the next two weeks :P

Hey, you're learning plenty doing what you're doing now :) Don't knock it! It's good to hear from you; I've been meaning to write. I'd be more than happy to show you around properly if you ever want to visit LA again!

You're such an achiever, and I am a two-time college dropout. Sigh.

But I'm happy. I'm going to tell my brothers what my parents don't want them to hear. They shouldn't go to college right away. Take some time off to live life and be a grownup.

I applied for Evergreen for winter 2010 (sophomore year part 3!), despite supposedly graduating in spring 2010, but I might not go through with it. Depends on how my life is working out. I'm just not feeling "school" right now.

I give you full permission to mock me if I end up being one of those ridiculous people who becomes a perpetual grad student.

I really admire you for following the path that's right for you and being so independent. That takes mad courage and skills right there. Are you still interested in studying math and science?

P.S. If you want me to send you the new Doctor Who series 4 soundtrack, just let me know :D The Voyage of the Damned suite is the most badass TV episode score I've heard since Alias.

Halloween in Little Tokyo sounds lovely! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yes, it would make a great tradition.

I handed treats out to about 120 little hooligans on Halloween. It was sweet. Several kids recognized me from school, and their reactions were so comical: eyes popped out, some venturing to say "I know you!" Yes, it's true, we have homes of our own and do not sleep in the school boiler room:)

Hey, congrats on plowing through the paperwork and getting registered for grad school. I raise my coffee mug to you! *cheers*

Excellent strategy, to take the practice GRE tests. Is the standardized test the sort with the rows of little circles which you must fill in with a #2 lead pencil?
I must confess, I am one of those nerds who absolutely love those tests. I am attracted to the symmetry of the answer sheet - all those pretty rows of circles, and I love filling in the circles, and making the light reflect off the shiny black dots. *g*
