After forgoing the one morning of the week I can sleep in until 9:30 to petition the housing office, my roommates and I have finally secured a two bedroom apartment for all of us right across the street from campus.  After a computer system glitch that split our group up yesterday, we were as cheerful as negotiators during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Thankfully now I'm not stuck in a room with a self-described nymphomaniac satanist.  For the record, my roommate and her fellow architecture major friends confirmed that this would-be roommate did come across as crazy and irritated everyone in her studio.

The only mildly disappointing aspect of my new housing arrangement is that my dad probably won't be able to visit me next year in the apartment as most of the apartment units are above ground and accessible by outdoor staircase.  That, or I better start doing weight training on my arms if I'm going to pull his wheelchair up the steps.

[profile] lifeisacookie has wisely suggested that I sacrifice the innards of a pillow to the housing gods in gratitude.  I best set up my shrine now.

Congrats for the housing situation! It really can be such a hassle at College(or Uni as they say here)

Thank you! It's a major relief to be able to find a decent place to live in the neighborhood around my uni :) as a lot of the landlords are very irresponsible/negligent, the rents are too much considering the quality/location of many of the apartments, and the neighborhood can be sketchy in several areas. I hope you don't have to go through too much hassle yourself.

Oh don't I know it. I went with a friend of mine to search apartments for herself and her roommates. The places we saw were abysmal!
Thanks, I'm doing the whole "commuting" thing this year, hopefully all goes smoothly next year.

Very much worth it, especially hearing all of these horror stories about the would-be satanist nymphomaniac...

But yeah, I've always wanted to have an apartment shared with friends. It makes me feel vaguely mature :) Surprisingly, a lot of apartments around here are less expensive to live in after you factor out the costs of mandatory dorm meal plans.

Thanks! Actually, a new crisis has popped up - if the housing office doesn't recognize that I've confirmed my contract by 9 AM tomorrow, they're giving away my spot. And I have a mandatory class at that time, so it looks like I'll have to make a creative break...
