Why does red tape have to be called red tape? Why can't it be blue or green or orange instead?

In other words, my independent study for music history is harder to arrange than I thought. Just when I managed to come up with some semblance of a program of study, it turns out there are some Number 2 loopholes that I thought had been worked out. Silly me. I wonder if I can just forfeit the credit and just have the name on my transcript? I've already fulfilled my arts requirement anyway.

I'm sorry. I tried to do an Independent study designing a children's book but they wouldn't let me do one for adults in the same format. (Not "adult", mind you, but I wanted to do an alphabet pinup book in a Gil Elvgren style-- you know "A" for apple and have a sexy teacher making that 50's "woo" face). I didn't see what the subject matter had to do with learning how to design a book. Then when I changed it to a monster alphabet it was approved, so I made V for Vampire look like Elvira.

What's a Morris loophole?

Hmm, I was actually thinking of Number 2 rather than Mary Morris (re: Dance of the Dead) who's one of my favorite evil Village administrators. Funny how Morris slipped out instead. Did you ever make that alphabet pinup book? I would definitely want to take a look at it.

Hee! Morris Loophole!

Sadly, no, that was my original proposal before the start of the semester and since it got shot down I moved on to the Delightful Demons alphabet. It required 26 sketches and 3 finished illustrations plus a cover, so it never got made into a book, either, though I did learn things like storyboarding, signatures, color psychology, shape mimicry, how to make the eye travel where you want it to and most importantly not to put necessary details in the center inch on a full bleed spread.

I sold the three panels to some Goths at the end of the semester, lol!

Now that you dug that out of my memory bank it seems like a good idea, though, doesn't it? The Pin-up Alphabet? Maybe I'll stew with it awhile after I finish the comic.

(BTW, Loki the kitten just poked Satan in the eye for fun.)

If you do make the pin-up alphabet sometime I think it'd be fun if you adapted a few of the letters for shirt designs.

How's the comic going? Did you enter that contest?

Why red? Because red looks official. Can you imagine a snooty 18th century british law clerk binding documents in purple or pastel? I personally would love to see "plaid tape" but it's not going to happen.

I've always been curious just what "dependent study" is, myself. Students who can't sleep at night without checking up on their textbooks, perhaps?

I could see dark purple or forest green for official purposes, although red dye would be less expensive. I really want plaid tape, too.

Dependent study is for dependent variables that pop out of graphs in school-related nightmares, I think. But I like your explanation better.
