Fall is a mysteriously lovely time of year, especially when the light wanders somewhere between summer and twilight. I don't care what people say, the leaves do change color here in Northern California!

Sophia showed me this awesome frozen yogurt place this afternoon. It's almost as good as the one near Harvard. [livejournal.com profile] lacesilkvinyl, I want to get boba with you, Danielle, and Sophia right now! (I'm really sorry about being lousy and unreliable, but I can't call you until this weekend because I'm low on cell phone minutes until November. And I have a really nasty feeling that the birthday card and CD that I sent you never did show up. Damn the post office.) And wander around Cambridge until beautifully absurd hours of the morning and stare at the stars from the foot of the Lamont Library steps. The Harvard reps came to visit the IHL this afternoon, and I kept wanting them to hurry up through all of the obvious stuff about concentrations instead of majors and reading periods and whatnot. But of course, they ended up saying everything I already knew about the place, although with a little more PR enhancement. They never even mentioned how fabulous Cambridge is for uni students. And now I have just made my uber-pretentious quota for the day.

'Tis the ringing season again during which hapless junior ringees find creative ways to woo their senior ringers into giving the juniors the seniors' class rings. Apparently there are a lot of all-girls' institutions with similar traditions (including Banquet), according to Ellie, who spent her senior year of high school at an American all-girls boarding school. I am quite delighted with mine; I wasn't expecting anything this morning when I found that adorable Snoopy stuffed animal holding the jack-o-lantern and the cute black cat mug with the Halloween candy. And then there was the inspirational "you can get through college apps" card. Huzzah! Must think of something nice to do for whoever it is-I've narrowed it down to two people.

Edit: all relevant graphics-i.e. these Third Man friends only banners-have been moved to my icon journal, [livejournal.com profile] retro_activity.

The lovely fonts "Porcelain" and "Selfish" can be found here. Perhaps sometime I'll make some Vertigo banners just for the fun of it.

CLEARLY you have WAY too much free time.

(this coming from the girl who spent a half hour today blowing up her school id and "laminating" it in the media lab... resulting in her being a half an hour late to her own waterpolo game. go me!)

HAHAHAHA.

Actually, I think I'm going to scan in my Harvard ID badge because it's the only decent "official" picture of me in existence. How'd the game go, anyway? And how's Jesus doing?

We won, despite my absence. *cough*

Jesus. Well, he's just Jesus-like.

Hmmmmm..... because they haven't arrived yet. I've been checking the mail constantly too.

Cambridge did feel slightly like Disneyland Harvard or something, thought.... but it was pretty safe (save for the JESUS FREAK!) and the stores were cool and off beat.

I need to mail you.... and everybody really. I love mail!! (Except when it comes from colleges I have no intention of attending....)

I await your call!! *blows kisses*

Well, I just recieved a piece of college mail that was sent on July 19 this afternoon, so I'm going to just send it all again because my faith in the post office just crawled into a hole and lapsed into a coma.

Cambridge rocks; so does randomly wandering around Boston in Chinatown (hee! Boba again!) and the North End for pizelles (did I spell that right?) Pity that none of us happen to have teleporters in our closets...

Jesus Freak is here to save our souls from the eternal fire and brimstone of hell, dude. I thought that you of all people would know by now that Christ *is* our savior. (No offense to Christians, but I can't restrain myself from mocking fundamentalism.)

And I happened to be the lucky one to be targeted by all the Asian missionaries on campus. Do I have some kind of mark on my forehead saying "Yes, I'm a heathen; please convert me"?!

I've been uber-lazy about keeping in contact with people. Is Sunday a good time for me to call you? (There's a schoolwide function Saturday.)

Hey Lea,
So how's things with the college applications going? Where are you applying to?

Cornell sent me some lovely big envelopes which was very exciting. It was of course, only application forms and a prospectus, but exciting nonetheless.

I love big envelopes; they always make you feel wanted :D And of course Cornell would want you.

I'm applying to 7 schools: Scripps (the all-womens college of the Claremont Colleges in Southern California), University of Southern California, Stanford, Wellesley, Harvard, Columbia and Brown. Really all I have to do is finish the personal essay section/"Why do you want to attend University X?" sections; I have written two drafts of a personal essay which I'm using for all but one of the college apps. Unfortunately I'm easily distracted by more exciting projects, but as my first app is due November 1 for scholarship considerations I really need to get my act together!

That's so cool. Good luck, have to keep up posted! I'm not actually applying to Cornell this year, it will be next year, but it doesn't stop them sending me application forms though! Anyhow, it's nice to get mail, especially big envelopes with Ivy uni seals on them!

What focus do you have in mind for your studies?

Obviously you're a better planner than I am :D

I'm pretty sure that I want to major in psychology/neuroscience and something else. That something else might be: communications, history, economics, women's studies, or musicology. I'm really sure that I want to double-major, though.

Sounds fantastic! My undergrad I did a double major in Film Theory and Politics, and sort of did a Women's studies minor as well on the side. One of the things which I really liked about undergrad was that in second adn third year you could talor essays to your own interests within structured classes. For instance, I started experimenting with ideas for graduate study in third year ( I did a 3 year bachelors here, nof t 4 like it is in the US). And I picked classes where I could write an essay about music/national cinema/women's studies within a generalised kind of film course. So look for classes which foster interdisiplinary thinking if you're thinking of finding a way to combine your interests. Since you're the creative type, it might also be a noteworthy thing to perhaps stick in a college statement, maybe that you see the wider connections between topics and would like X program for X reasons.
