I think Mancini's American. Or maybe he's Canadian? I've been debating with myself and with Kerstin on this topic for awhile.

Got back from a two day class retreat yesterday. Quite fun camping, really. Our group had this hideously long steep dusty hike that lasted for at least an hour and a half. It was much more pleasant on the way down, as Becca-chan and Julie and I were ahead of everyone else (on the way up the mountain, whose top we were only 5 minutes away from before we turned around, I was second to last and had everyone's dust in my face-ick) and were becoming really hyper. Becca kept on imitating Mario from the video game when jumping and stuff and used her canteen like a drum. Rather amusing, really. I kept on humming "Love makes the world go 'round" to see if they'd notice but they either didn't or chose to ignore me. I think I was humming too quietly.

The tents were absolutely freezing at night. My feet were the only part of me that were actually cold, but I woke up about twice, once at 1 AM because of this really loud owl (I heard Thea nearby muttering "Won't that owl just shut up?") and then again at 3 because some rooster was crowing. Let's just say that I was cold and tired but surprisingly energetic in the morning.

Changing in the tent wasn't fun, either. And of course I ran over to the bathroom after awhile because I was freezing and the bathroom actually had heat in there. The campfire was really great like it always is, though some campers got really annoyed because we were being really noisy and stuff. The bathroom only had 3 stalls per gender for the entire campground, which was really annoying. I ended up brushing my teeth with Sophia outside the tent. It was rather amusing to be walk around in the dark without a flashlight while brushing teeth. Really, it was. I played pick up sticks with Julie, Sophia, and Kerstin while Seana looked on in Seana and Kerstin's tent. It was the most intense game I've ever played, and also the most diplomatic. Everyone held in her breath when it was someone's turn and we'd all give suggestions. Kerstin kept on saying "No, this isn't a stick job, this is a finger job!" Quite amusing, really. Julie kept on singing this weird but slightly annoying bovine freedom song. Sort of confusing. I played a few games of Crazy 8's as well with this messed up penacle deck that we surreptiously borrowed from Becca.

The food was surprisingly good. We took down the tents the next day and had a nice yummy breakfast in the very cold air. We left the campgrounds at 9 after taking down the tents and took a bus 15 minutes down to the coast to go kayaking. That was awesome. Eneida and I were in this pretty aqua blue kayak and we had these weird skirt things that covered the opening where you sit so that you don't get nearly as wet. I loved it. I got to steer the first time and it was fun being in the back and then speeding up to the front of the group. I kept on crashing into people's kayaks initially but improved ever so gradually. Hee hee. We landed at this small pebble beach area about 1.5 miles away, ate lunch, hung out for about 15 minutes, then kayaked back. I got sort of lazy after awhile. Then we waited to get picked up by the buses, and while waiting at the kayak place, which was also a hotel, this grumpy old lady in the hotel who was wearing only her sports bra (very disturbing) yelled at me to stop standing by someone's car. Then she yelled to see the "adult counselor of the group", who happened to be just Mr. Mitchell because the three other chaperones were somewhere else at the moment. She was rather an annoying old lady. Eventually our bus left and Kerstin tried to french braid my hair which didn't work because it's still sort of layered and my poor frigid hat had to dry out from the seawater. When we reached SF Seana, Morgane, Sophia, and me just randomly started talking to Ms. Shea and Mitchell untill we reached the T&C. We ended up waiting for another 45 minutes because the other bus had to wait for the atheletes to be picked up in a seperate van to go to their games. A nice retreat, really. Not too much homework to do at least.
