I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with Tsai Chin's work outside of the Joy Luck Club film adaptation. Family lore says that she was a friend of my grandmother's many years ago but they've fallen out of touch.

I'm actually sort of glad that there's no Q in CR-much as I like John Cleese, he just can't hold up to the definitive (though technically not original) Q, Desmond Llewellyn. Same with Moneypenny, really, although Samantha Bond really seemed like she was hitting her stride the more Bond films she did. I wonder if they'll keep Judi Dench as M for the rest of the trilogy, then?

I didn't realize that Daniel Craig's been signed on for three films; I guess he's learned from George Lazenby. What's considered to be the original Fleming trilogy, i.e. the SPECTRE/Blofeld trilogy, of Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and You Only Live Twice (filmed out of order) has already been filmed, so I'm wondering if they'll be going on to the John Gardner or Raymond Benson novels next? All the Fleming literary material has been pretty much tapped unless they're willing to somehow incorporate the few short stories that haven't been touched.

Whatever the filmmakers do, I'm hoping that Casino Royale will be the modern version of the Living Daylights (following the excesses of A View to a Kill) or For Your Eyes Only (following the cheesy, over the top Moonraker) in bringing the series back down to earth and actually focus on characterization and a sensible if still fantastical plotline.
