Generally I don't take painkillers as I don't usually have the need, either. But then again, I've been lucky enough not to have to deal with a lot of pain. It seems like in the US doctors tend to overprescribe painkillers to avoid patients' complaints; I know in Asia the amount of painkillers prescribed is generally less, and patients tend to rely more on holistic analgesics.
