intellectualizing pompously
May. 31st, 2005 12:30 pmIt has suddenly struck me that everything I have in my CrWr portfolio for the semester has all been influenced by film music. I'm so used to associating certain images or situations with what I'm listening to at the time that I seem to try to do this weird translation of music into words, and that most of what I've written have merely been highlighting certain aspects of a melody than others in different pieces. I tend to mold my original ideas so that they fit the climaxes and figures of the music. I attempt to use stories and whatnot as an excuse for me to further explore music and impart my own embellishments in words to make up for my lack of performance ability.
Bernard Herrmann is a genius, although I've figured that out for some time, to get me so hooked on his Vertigo score. I think I will go postal if the two soundtracks of his that I ordered don't show up today.
In other words, I'm incapable of fully separating myself from my obsessions and merely attempt to give them some sort of artistic or intellectual backing. Well, that's the sort of thing that I do.
