James Goldman is my demi-god; mysteriously his work manages to help me out when I'm being crazy/weirdly moody. I borrowed the copy of Myself as Witness from the C&C room this Tuesday when none of my tutees showed up and started reading it this morning. It's told from the perspective of a a chronicling monk who's been comissioned to write a history of the unfairly reviled King John Lackland's reign. Needless to say I'm very intrigued by what I've read so far, and it makes me very happy. One of these days I'm going to watch Robert and Marian, Nicholas and Alexandra, and They Might Be Giants, the only screenplays other than the Lion in Winter that Goldman wrote. The only little thing that bothers me about Goldman is that all of the women in his works have to be otherworldly-gorgeous; I've never heard of a single ugly woman even mentioned in passing. Kerstin threatens to steal the book from me if I don't finish reading it soon, so I'll start whittling away my free periods upon its perusal.

The Electric Penguins sounded decently good when practicing "Still, Still, Still" despite the fact that Chelsea and Rachel weren't there. Alex C-G and Kerstin's dad filled in for us with some amusing results. A sophomore will be recording us on film for some unknown reason tomorrow, so that's why we were practicing that old piece. After Kerstin, her dad, and Alex left, Kersten practiced juggling bells and dropping them on the floor and on my left foot, the same foot on which she dropped the 20-lb case of bell chimes right before our Winter Concert. Not that I have a grudge or anything, of course. Becca, Kersten, and I ended up playing a trio version of the duet that Becca and I play which was rather amusing, and afterwards Becca and Kersten were tossing Kerstin's paisley mole over the keyboard as I attempted to play. At the very end Kersten accidentally hit me in the forehead, which was rather amusing. Kersten and I ended up hanging out in the Choral Room listening to my iTunes library, which was rather nice until the Shrimp popped in briefly. Pat photocopied the Radetsky March and the March from the Nutcracker for us, which was really lovely of her. Here's to a good performance of "Still" tomorrow.

I was surreally amused to see several classmates, including [livejournal.com profile] thehashmark, [livejournal.com profile] crypticonfusion, and [livejournal.com profile] latina_business modelling Alissa and Dersha on [livejournal.com profile] leflyingolive's laptop using the Sims 2. Thea was being amusingly obsessive over details and there was much goofiness overall. It's kind of weird, though, to actually model people you know in the Sims. I admit that in the original game I made two versions of my family (I had to reinstall the game once), but my game version of my family, dubbed the Weirdos, was even more amusingly absurd than the real life version. Apparently you can play the Sims 2 without the CD by installing the little code that the computer needs to recognize that's on the CD to play the game. I am really tempted to install the Sims 2 on my laptop, but I'm afraid of what the effects might be on my work habits. I've been pretty good about working more efficiently so far as my New Year's Resolution, and I'd hate to waste away my efforts. Plus, I already have the Internet as my lovely procrastination tool :)
