Interesting choice there; whenever I think of directors who really knew how to use music, I always happen to think of Hitchcock's "golden era" when he collaborated with Bernard Herrmann (1950's-early 1960's). I'd say that Kubrick knew how to use classical music to underline the irony of the narrative instead of choosing original music to suit his intentions-Laurie Johnson's (who's most famous for scoring the Emma Peel and Tara King years of the Avengers) overall score for Dr. Strangelove is hardly his most memorable.
