On number 86:

Apparently in the TV series Get Smart, the principal character Maxwell Smart was known as Agent 86. According to Wikipedia, the number 86 for Smart was presumably chosen because it was bartenders' slang for not serving an inebriated customer, having been derived from clerks' slang for "We're all out of the item ordered." One explanation of the origin of that usage is that 86 was rhyming slang for "nix."
Just brilliant, isn't it?
Heeeeeee!
Date: 2005-04-07 09:51 pm (UTC)I found out last year 99 was the first ever mother who worked full-time outside the home on TV. And they didn't do it again until the 80s. Most families are like this these days, but it's still difficult to find on TV, especially in sitcoms. I challenged my friends to come up with 5 current sitcoms which had both parents working full-time outside the home and they weren't able to.
BTW, love the icon! Very pretty.
