The Godfather stopped by today, and we had a terribly froody chat as usual. It always feels so corny to say this, but I really admire him. He's one of the only people I've ever known who can drop off a witty one-liner in the midst of a conversation covering the proper set-up of a wireless network, the creeping influence of evangelical Protestantism in American politics, and the long-lasting impact of cult British 60's spy shows. There's one more family friend of mine who's capable of doing all of the above (coincidentally they're all MIT grads from the same class). Needless to say I always have a tremendously good time with them.

In my peculiar manner I find it extremely amusing that I've managed to somehow become an authority in Chinese actresses appearing in cult British 60's spy TV shows. Seriously. I have no idea how exactly people have come to believe things that I say as a reliable source of information, but I am assuming that being Chinese and having a grandmother who was a would-be starlet has something to do with it.

My Vertigo review is going well so far. I'm mostly writing this for myself since I have no place to publish it. It's all making much more sense now; I can really see why people often compare this score to Wagner's Tristan and Isolde. People keep asking why I appear to be constantly scribbling stuff down (in pen; I've learned my lesson) instead of paying attention to slightly more urgent matters. Nobody's been brave enough to decipher my handwriting yet. I don't blame them, really. Thankfully my CrWr class seems to have stopped remarking on the loopiness of my y's and g's as of today.

And then for some silly 15th century meme-sheepness among other things.

The Prioress
You scored 15% Cardinal, 53% Monk, 70% Lady, and 35% Knight!
You scored high in as both a lady and a monk. You are definetly a moral person, and are also highly intellectual. This is perhaps the best combination of figures. You can try again to get a more precise description of either the monk or the lady, or you can be happy that you're an individual.

Well-Ballanced
You scored 70 %Lefty and 70 %Righty!
Congratulations, you have well developed skills in both hemispheres of the brain. You see an abundance of ideas and you can easily make plans without getting lost in possibilities. Both the details and the bigger picture are obvious to you. You can relate to almost anyone, and understand their perspective. Undoubtedly you are good at anything you set your mind to. It may also be possible to hypnotise you.

Yes indeed, the Vertigo soundtrack sounds very much like Wagner in places, doesn't it? A very insightful comparison.

Thanks! :) I'm actually going to borrow a friend's copy of Tristan and Isolde to see if there's something deeper. Vertigo has a similar premise to Wagner's opera, and Herrmann did at least borrow the concept of the leitmotif (motif associated with a specific character, place, emotion, etc.) that was pioneered by Wagner.

The Cardinal!

You scored 71% Cardinal, 23% Monk, 29% Lady, and 35% Knight!
You are the real power behind the throne. No one dares dispute or refuse you. Which is good because that's how you get things done. You are also, however, completely corrupt and highly immoral. This doesn't bother you in the least as you lounge around your rich comfortable surroundings, reveling in wealth and authority.

about the only thing this got right for me was the comfortable surroundings bit. and i might, perhaps, be a little amoral. ;)

Because the more I thought about it, the more I realized the boy needed a good kicking anyway.
